Software

The software behind the site is TikiWikiexternal link. I've made some changes, like the feedback tab and a few new plugins. Thanks to people like Marc Laporteexternal link who have put so much time into it.

TikiWiki is written in PHPexternal link. MySQLexternal link is the underlying database. I used jQueryexternal link for some of the animated demonstrations. My preferred development environment for such work is Aptanaexternal link. My preferred Web browser is Firefoxexternal link. Other software I used includes the GIMPexternal link, Irfanviewexternal link, and Winkexternal link.

Images

Most of the drawings are from Scan This Book, Volumes 1-3. The are no usage restrictions. Hooray!

Other drawings come from a clipart collection I bought in the 1990s from Nova Developmentexternal link. It came with a liberal usage license.

A few drawings are from various Dover books. Be careful when using Dover images. Dover has a license that is restrictive for a large project like this. It's OK for small projects, however.

The photographs are mostly from public domain sources. The photos of the Scoobies are from US federal government Web sites. There's a list of sources at Wikipediaexternal link. MorgueFileexternal link is a good place. So is Stock.xchngexternal link. Check the licenses of each image before you use it. Some photographers have special restrictions.

Also check PDPhoto.orgexternal link, and PublicDomainPictures.netexternal link. A Google search for "public domain images" will give you many more listings.

Some photos are from the subscription service 123RFexternal link. A few of the photos I took myself.

Note that there's a different between "royalty-free photos" and "public domain photos." The former may be free to use as much as you like, but you have to buy a license to use them at all.

Humans

My students at Oakland University have given me useful feedback. Thanks!

Thanks especially to my family: Ann (my partner on this site, and in life), Cullyn, and Teagan. And Oscar, the Giant Lab of Doom (GLOD), for occasionally dragging me away from this keyboard.
